When an employee logs into the admin interface or an affiliate logs into their interface a test cookie is set on the tracking domain for the network. When the employee or affiliate then views any tracking link, the network's ad servers recognize that the user has a test cookie set and handle the request specially. These test cookies make it easier for employees and affiliates to test tracking links. Below will tell you how the ad server handles requests for employees and affiliates.
Each time you login as an employee or an affiliate, the corresponding test cookie will be set. You can remove the test cookie by clearing the cookies on the tracking domain. Only users that login to the affiliate network will get these test cookies.
Employee Test Cookie
- If aff_sub5 is null, ad server sets aff_sub5 to 'app_admin'
- If the tracking links is going to be redirected to a new URL than the one requested, ad server will show a redirection notice and redirect to the request URL
- Browser and Country/Region targeting isn't enforced as the redirection page above is displayed
- No secondary offer redirects are done
- No conversion/lead caps are enforced
- Ad server displays friendly error messages (usually white screen)
- Automatically sets transaction ID to random so you can test multiple conversions per day
- Enforce Conversions Tracking protocol and Enforce Conversion Referrals are not enforce
The employee test cookie will be located on the tracking domain for the affiliate network with the name of app_user and value of 8. Below is the cookie information for an employee that logged into the Demo affiliate network.
