Support Questions:How does the CDN work

From HasOffers

Enabling the CDN serves media files from a content distribution network. HasOffers has partnered with Akamai to enable your networks media files to be served from a CDN.

Severing files from a CDN allows users to load images and static files faster – sometimes 300 milliseconds to more than a second depending on the size of the file. If the CDN is enabled and Media Usage fees are two dollars ($2.00) per gigabyte transfer. If the CDN is not enabled, Media Usage fees are one dollar ($1.00) per gigabyte transfer.

If the CDN is disabled, requests for creative files just are made to HasOffers data centers each time instead of from one of the thousands Akamai server that are distributed worldwide which are generally closer to users.

'How the CDN works with Media Files

User in Dallas, Texas, USA views an advertisement that has the image: 120x240.gif

Akamai has hundreds of thousands of servers spread worldwide and one of Akamai’s servers located in Dallas would respond to the request above. If Akamai’s server has the file, it sends the file to the user. The user doesn’t have to request a copy of it from HasOffers’ data centers (Los Angeles or Boston which are much further) and the user is able to load the media file faster. If one of Akamai’s servers doesn’t have the file, it requests it from the HasOFfers data centers, load it and then sends it onto the client.

Akamai stores media files for three days. After this duration, they are removed. Thus, Akamai only temporarily saves media files that are accessed often. If a file hasn’t been accessed for more than three, Akamai servers will just have to request the file from HasOffers first.

To enable your network’s media files to use the CDN then you will need to enable it. Hover over the Company tab, select Customize Application and then select the Offer Settings. Then Enable Use CDN.

If you need media files remove / purged from the CDN, then contact support.
